Bee (a) savior

A recent report from the Swedish environmental protection agency states that the situation is urgent for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. In Sweden as many as one third of our 270 distinct wild bee species are endangered. The problem of bee decline is not unique to Sweden, it is a huge global problem.
Pesticides, lack of food and a changed landscape threaten our little wild gardeners. It means serious consequences for our future. We are totally dependent on the crucial work of bees and other insects. About a third of the food we humans eat is pollinated by them.

What can you and I do to help? The problem seems overwhelming but there are quite a few small things we can do as individuals to help. If you have a lawn, leave some of it to become a flowery meadow and plant bee friendly flowers. Build a bee hotel, it’s not so complicated, watch and learn from a Youtube clip. Plant bee and butterfly friendly flowers on your balcony. All different butterflies have a special host flower of plant where they deposit their eggs and the caterpillars eventually feed. Caterpillars are particular which host plant they will feed off, so you can choose which butterflies you would like to hopefully visit.
Choose and support organic food, skincare, clothes etc.
Don’t use pesticides in your garden or harsh chemical cleaning and washing detergents in your home. For your families health and the health of our planet.

Chia seed oil fabulous for a beautiful complexion

Most of us know that chia seeds are great for our bodies when adding to food and smoothies for example. But did you know that oil extracted from chia seeds has incredible beauty benefits? Not only are they rich in precious omega-3 fatty acids, but they’re also intensely anti-inflammatory, calming and antioxidant-rich. What does that mean exactly? Chia seed oil is a great bet for restoring vital moisture, diminishing redness and inhibiting the appearance of wrinkles.
Those essential fatty acids also help to make the skin feel soothed and calmed, while giving it a supple and plumped up appearance. Another bonus to using chia seed oil on skin is its bounty of antioxidants, which help to protect the skin from signs of age, environmental, and UV induced damage. The oil is lightweight and non-greasy, so it won’t leave skin feeling oily. People with dry skin will love using chia seed oil for its amazing moisturizing properties. However, chia seed oil is actually great for all skin types—even oily, which can be surprising to many people. There is a common myth that applying oil to an oily skin will make it worse. This isn’t the case. Oily skin can really benefit from the nourishment that chia seed oil can give, ultimately helping it to control itself and to stop overproducing oil. Chia seed oil is rich in vitamin B3 and zinc, which means it balances oily skin and keeps the complexion clear Soft hydrated skin with a youthful look who doesn’t want that? This is why chia seed oil is the main ingredient in our award winning Face it serum. Top tip – make sure your skin is a bit moist before adding drops of oil on your face, this helps the oil penetrate the skin.

Great things happening 2019

Great things happening 2019. It’s not only gloom and doom. Even if we have a long way to go. Here are some small steps in the right direction.
Many countries and states are banning elephants and other animals from performing at the circus.
A ban on microbeads in personal care products such as shower gels, toothpaste, cleaning products, etc takes effect 2019. These microbeads are so small, they pass through the filters in the water treatment plants and end up in our waters where they absorb toxins and are eaten by marine life and eventually ending up on our plates. Microbeads are not biodegradable so they stay around forever.
There has been a nonsmoking policy in enclosed areas in the EU for several years and from 2019 in Sweden you can no longer smoke in outside cafés, train platforms and outside public buildings. Yay!
Next year 2020 EU is restricting the use of antibiotics in farm animals. Now all farm animals routinely get antibiotics even if they are not sick with the exception on organic farms . Next year only sick animals will get antibiotics. Doesn’t sound very appetizing to me. Livestock farming contributes 18% of human produced greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. This is more than all emissions from ships, planes, trucks, cars and all other transport put together.
We can all contribute by eating less or no meat at all.
Feel good result from a study made 2018 by fishing trawlers in the North Sea, previously they picked up 40% plastic bags, now it’s 16%
It shows that the little things you and me are doing makes a difference.

What makes Scandinavian beauty different

1. What is it that make Scandinavian beauty regimes different from those from other area of the world?

Many Scandinavians embrace a holistic approach to great skin. It’s not just what you apply onto your skin, it’s also what you eat, mental wellbeing and how you exercise. Scandinavian women are knowledgeable on how strong fatty acids can increase the barrier functions of cells. Most people want to keep it simple and avoid long complicated routines.

2. Which product in your in your range do you consider the most Scandinavian and why?

They are all very Scandinavian as I like to use natural, pure, simple but effective ingredients, but if I would have to pick one it would be our multi award winning balm All you need is me. I have actually tasted all ingredients, that’s how pure it is. There are only 5 ingredient but as they are natural they work in synergy and become even more effective together.

Synthetic fragrances

Due to recent new EU legislation we have to mark our products that contain natural essential oils with “parfume”
Before this I have avoided all products with ”parfume” or ”fragrance” as it has meant that there are synthetic perfumes in it. And why would I want to avoid synthetic perfumes?
More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals. These chemicals include: benzene derivatives, aldehydes, phthalates, and a slew of other known toxins, some of which are cited on the EPA’s hazardous waste list. Synthetic aromas are known to have many side effects on health.
Manufacturers can legally hide hundreds of synthetic chemicals in the one word.
Synthetic perfumes are really hard to avoid, they are everywhere. In your soap, cleaning products, wipes, laundry detergent, air fresheners, candles and the list goes on.
I find that once you have weened off synthetic fragrances you get more sensitive to synthetic aromas and instead appreciate natural perfumes and scents more, even pick up beautiful subtleties .
Unfortunately this new law makes it even more difficult for consumers. As we had to mark our new Body buddy with the word “parfum” I’ve already had calls asking if we now use synthetic ingredients. The answer is NO, we only use the finest organic essential oils, Bergamot, Sweet orange and lemongrass. The scent is delicious and Body buddy is 100% natural.

Steps for a Healthier Skin

Steps for a Healthier Skin

Everybody wants healthy, natural looking skin.  There are many things you can do to obtain a healthier looking skin.  Sometimes it can be confusing knowing what steps to take to improve your skin.  That's why we created this simple guide to help lead you in the right direction.

Stay Hydrated

Our skin reflects how we treat our body.  If we don't drink enough water, our skin will look dehydrated.  Dehydration can cause our skin to look dry and dull.  Our body requires 8 cups of water daily to remove unwanted toxins and help achieve a glowing skin.

Wash Your face before going to bed

After a long day, the last thing a woman wants to do is wash her face.  Cleansing your skin before bed is more important than cleansing in the morning because your skin is exposed to the sun, dirt, makeup, debris, and pollution. Don’t forget to wash your face before bed!

Protection

One of the most important ways to protect the skin is by protecting it from the sun.  Extensive sun exposure can cause a variety of symptoms, some of which include wrinkles, age spots and more.  Use an SPF daily which has at least 10-15 SPF.  When outside for an extended period, look for shade or wear a hat. When swimming, apply sunscreen more often.

Moisturizer

Daily Moisturizer is a great defense against dehydrated skin.  Apply a cream or moisturizer after showering to help seal the moisture that your skin has just absorbed in the shower.  Depending on your climate your skin may get dry throughout the day.  Apply moisturizer throughout the day to prevent skin from getting dry

Facial Mask

Using a facial mask is one of the easiest ways to get healthy glowing skin in just a few minutes.  Some of the benefits of using face masks include:

increases hydration: Face masks can bring moisture and hydration to dry and dehydrated skin types.  The water from the mask penetrates deep into the skin to soften the skin and improve its elasticity. When skin is hydrated it becomes firmer and obtains a more youthful appearance.

reduces fine lines: Regular use of a face mask can reduce the signs of aging such as fin lines, brown spots, and wrinkles.  In addition, you can enjoy softer and smoother skin.

improves skin firmness. Loose skin can make you look older than you are. There are many types of treatments to help firm skin.  Using a face mask is at the top of the list to help increase skin firmness.

Serum

Serum is being implemented into skin care routines is on the rise.  Serums have the highest concentration of active ingredients that you can get without a prescription. Cleansers and moisturizers usually contain 5-10% active ingredients whereas serums contain up to 70% active ingredients. Additional active ingredients mean you are getting more results when looking to reduce fine lines, brighten and firm skin.

Positive thinking challenge

Health and well-being I think also includes mental health. I’m sure positive thinking can be a challenge to everyone at some point. My sister got me a book about positive thinking. Every morning you are supposed to write down 10 things you are grateful for. After 27 days of doing this, miracles are to be expected. I’m on day 12 and even though I started this exercise with gusto, I’m running out of things to be grateful for. I’m down to being grateful for the cheese at my breakfast. 😳 But then my sister said that you are allowed to repeat, and I immediately started feeling more positive. So it’s proof that it’s working already 😉 What do you say, do you want to join me in this challenge? Write 10 positive things you are grateful for, every morning for 27 days. Would be interesting to see the results ☀️

Give bees a chance!

Give Bees a Chance: Go Organic!
There are many reasons to buy organic and a major one is to help save the.
Bees pollinate a significant majority of the world's food, but they are disappearing at an alarming rate.

How does going organic help?
The pesticides used in non-organic farming can be lethal to pollinating bees. In some cases they simply kill bees, but in other cases they can make bees slow and drowsy, hinder learning and cognitive function and even affect reproduction. This can eventually lead to the collapse of the entire colony.

Herbicides used to kill weeds in non-organic farming also remove food sources for the bees, further hindering their survival.

Organic farming, on the other hand, avoids the use of these pesticides and herbicides, as well as artificial fertilisers. This provides a rich environment for bees to thrive, with a wider variety of plant life, which further supports other wildlife such as birds and field mice.

The Soil Association claims that plant, insect and bird life is 50% more abundant on organic farms!

Buying more organic produce supports organic farming – the more you buy, the less demand there is for non-organic products, which encourages more farmers to go organic!

You can help protect bees by choosing organic food, grown without these toxic insecticides, and planting bee friendly gardens.
